There must be something in the water in the UK that enables so many fine and funky, Hammond-organ led beat-combos to flourish. While the James Taylor Quartet and The New Mastersounds are probably the most well known, the guys from Big Boss Man have also been producing excellent records for the past 12 years.
Nasser Bouzida, Trevor Harding and Scott Milsom played at London’s legendary Blow Up club early in 1999, and made such an impression that they were immediately signed to the Blow Up label. Since then, the group has released three albums and countless singles, some of which have made a notable impact: their track “Party 7” was featured in Nike's FIFA 2006 World Cup advertising campaign. They have remixed Paul Weller’s Top 20 hit “The Bottle” and provided the soundtrack for – and starred in – the short film Sweet, a comedy by The Mighty Boosh duo Julian Barrett and Noel Fielding. Their latest album Full English Beat Breakfast was released in September on Blow Up, to great acclaim.
Big Boss Man have brought their own inimitable brew, of 60s / 70s influenced funk, R&B, Latin soul, boogaloo and organ-driven grooves to Spain many times, earning themselves a loyal and devoted following in the process—so this should be a night for some serious “getting-down”.
