A master at triggering double takes, Aires will set up solo this spring at ADN. Known for their peculiar exhibitions, like a gun-toting Dali Lama sculpture and a colorful comic series about the Pope’s rather sexy after-hour behavior, this latest exhibition will turn heads as well. Born in Ronda, Aires has made a habit of creating provocative exhibitions using photography, video and performance art. Each exposes viewers to an uncomfortable reality — or is it? From his exhibition Happily Ever After with photos of a type of man-beast, to Love is in the Air, which lumped sex and violence into entertainment, he’s constantly challenging our view of the world we live in. What may look like a photograph of an enchanted forest – straight out of a fairytale – is much more. In an Aires exhibition, the photo taken is actually of the very misty bosques where hookers and their clients meet for romantic interludes.
