This Mediterranean eatery creates small Catalan and Basque platillos – like tapas but larger portions – which are paired with a wine suggestion from wine-lover and co-owner Jordi. It’s not a restaurant to scarf down a burger – influenced by the Slow Food movement – it’s for sitting and enjoying each bite. Their pleasurable plates include savory codfish, fresh vegetables and rich foie. Special fixed-price menus are available for groups and parties, which can be held in their outdoor area. They have a three-course midday menu for €12, a tasting menu, as well as the ‘Sidreria’ menu – with a steak to die for. But here it’s just as much about the wine as it is about the food: Epicur has been awarded two prestigious Cartaví prizes for the quality of their wine list in 2007 and 2008. They offer a large selection of wines from Catalunya, as well as from Spain and around the world. Epicur organizes frequent wine tastings and has recently launched a wine tasting course, good for those of us dying to know what beeswing or dirty socks refer to. After dinner, Epicur doubles as a bar, with glasses of wine from €1.50 plus all standard drink fare. And to boot, they host art exhibitions.
