The urban art scene continues to take off, so it is only fitting that works by Juan Manuel Pajáres form part of the permanent collection at gallery/shop Base Elements. J.M. Pajáres is a self-taught artist who never went to a design school, but claims to have found his form of expression through natural instinct.

After spending time in New York City, Juan returned to Spain inspired and hoping to create street art of his own. Originally from Andalucía, he takes the urban art style off the walls and puts it onto canvas using different painting techniques. Blues, reds and blacks come together in the collages of ideas that inspire him. From familiar faces to random findings, Juan creates relatable art around central figures like James Dean, Martin Luther King Jr., Elvis Presley, Barack Obama and more. Despite achieving success and making a name for himself, Juan is humble and practical, continuing to work as a meat seller in Spain, while making his creations.

Robert Burt, the owner of Base Elements remembers that Juan’s art literally “came to our doorsteps” as Juan’s cousin recommended he check out the gallery. Months later, he made his Base Elements exhibition debut and has been selling ever since.
