Barcelona, watch out. Las Bravas have landed. And they’re spicier and more addictive than the patatas themselves. Lidia and Paula hail from Mallorca and together they are teaching the city’s tight-knit DJ boys club how to put the fun back into disco. They will take you seamlessly from the 60s through to the 90s, with some Loquillo thrown in for good measure.
Like a fine Garnacha, the unstoppable DJ Slick Dixxx only gets better with age. Having recently added a third ‘X’ to his decades, this Barcelona-based Brit is really hitting his stride. With a background in Sheffield rave, Slick Dixx isn’t afraid to dabble in everything from ghetto-tech (Detroit club music) to piano house. Check out his recent mix with Kid Acne and his remix of Vybz Cartel’s “Tek Buddy Gyal”.
Determinedly fresh and original, this boy is battling to ensure that the city doesn’t slip into a techno-induced coma. He plays a self-coined brand of Subtropical Bass, bringing sunshine sounds to a typically darker dubstep and MC-ing over his sets. His new club night Banana Empire is currently bringing a little taste of the exotic to Thursdays at Razzmatazz with the sounds of electro-cumbia, baile funk (Brazilian dance music) and kuduro (up-tempo music originating in Angola).
