Chill on a weekday with the renowned 'Margarita Blue' house cocktail and Mediterranean fusion food while watching trapeze or magicians.

Meeting friends out is always a bit tricky. Those prone to tardiness can never seem to get it right, arriving 30 minutes early or late and it’s incredibly awkward to walk into a place without the armor of a group of friends. What may be even more challenging is venturing out in a new city alone. Luckily in Barcelona, there are locales like Margarita Blue, where going to grab a drink solo or waiting alone for a friend’s arrival is not only comfortable, but also enjoyable.

Serving up cool cocktails with a smile since 1997, Margarita Blue brought with it a friendly energy and ‘Come one, come all’ philosophy into the Barri Gòtic, just a short wander from Las Ramblas. A studied selection of liquors for even the most knowledgeable connoisseur is used in their broad cocktail menu that includes margaritas, mojitos and the smooth, but potent house specialty, Margarita Blue.

While sipping on a cocktail, enjoy something off their extensive menu. They offer Mediterranean tapas, salads, carpaccios, tacos, enchiladas and even fried green tomatoes for those homesick US Southerners. It is this, offering people a sampling of exotic flavors and comfort foods that adds to the extremely likeable atmosphere.

The MB owners also enjoy entertaining their guests. Guillem provides video art projections at night and customers are treated to unique surprise shows on Tuesdays that can include anything from acrobatics and jazz jams to boleros and salsa. Also a place where even the youngsters, 11 years and up can feel at ease and entertained, Nicolas the magician performs live Sundays and Wednesdays from 10pm-10:30pm.

Food and bar prices are reasonable, and they can conjure-up 20 different types of cocktails, including a range of the city’s best tequila-based drinks (around €6 each). So, forget about the shifty looks you might get in other places and that nervous stomach, the staff at Margarita Blue will provide the same comfort a thick armor of friends usually does.

Look for their group on Facebook.
