Belgian choreographer Alain Platel and his company Les Ballets C. de la B. return to Barcelona with a new show just in time for Valentine’s Day. A combination of acrobatics, modern dance and opera vocals, ladies are certain to take their gentleman callers to the ballet on the amorous date. Based on Bach’s St. Matthew Passion piece, Pitié! is not a simple update of a classic. Instead it is a beautifully painful, varied medium expression of a mother’s suffering at witnessing the sacrifice of her son. To pull off the lofty affair Platel rejoined artistic forces with composer Fabrizio Cassol. Their work has already gotten rave reviews around the globe, and Barcelona will certainly not be an exception, male attendants included.
