Dots and lines make up this show by bringing together people, culture and art.

Dots and lines form the base of nearly every creation, thought and action. They are the basic elements for communication systems and the essence of form and movement. Dots and lines are the building blocks of human thoughts. With this as a focus, three years ago the Punto y Raya festival was born.

Ana Santos and Noel Palazzo, a Barcelona-based pair developed the idea with the intention of bringing together people, cultures, art and creation without using words or influential forms. The criteria for entries in this videoart competition/festival are simple but specific. Each projection must be created entirely using dots and lines. Combined with music, the DJ/VJ sessions and screenings take viewers on a journey. Not distracted by the notion of perspective or volume, films focus on the essence of space and time. This simplicity and sense of freedom allows viewers to lose themselves in an almost hypnotic trance. Outside interest in Punto y Raya 2007 sent the festival on an international tour, which just came to an end. The competition, screenings, conferences and children’s workshops for this year have a ‘Back to Basics’ theme. At the close of this edition, the stripped down concept promoting videoart exploration and experimentation will set off far and wide once again.
