Jasper Fforde's newest novel is a social satire, romance and revolutionary thriller. Carey Zamarriego

An English novelist, Jasper Fforde’s career kicked off in 2001, with his first novel, The Eyre Affair. The story featured a tough female literary detective and possessor of a most peculiar name, Thursday Next. Thanks to Jasper’s knack for wordplay and use of allusions, the book spawned a series and a healthy fan following.

His latest work tackles social order in brilliant color. In a world where class position directly correlates to the number of colors one can see, the main character, Eddie Russet, is a member of the low-level House of Red. While those above him walk in a world of vibrant color, Russet sees red and everything else in a drab gray. Labeled as part social satire, romance and revolutionary thriller, the author is out now promoting the book in the US and UK. He documents the journey in his blog, as well as gives future dates – in 02031 he’ll be on the Asteroid Belt and Saturn – with the same playful and smart personality he brings to his writing.
