Stylish modern Mediterranean eatery and hot nightspot. Poppy Beale-Collins

A standard night out – or at least the first part – often goes along the lines of a few mouthfuls at a trusted tapas spot, a drink or three at a favorite haunt and then on to some dancing. It’s a rare feat to find all of these things under one roof, but Suborn is doing a great job so far.

Thu 8pm–2:30am, Fri 8pm–3am, Sat 12:30pm–5pm and 8pm–3am, Sun 12:30pm–5pm

On October 31st, this Born bar-restaurant-club opposite Ciutadella Park will be hosting a party for its fifth birthday with 50% off drinks and regular guest DJ Glass Hat stepping behind the well-trodden decks with his trademark mix of 80s, 90s, pop, rock and disco. A buzzing turn out is a safe bet judging by the slew of crowds passing through its doors every Thursday, Friday and Saturday and hot-footing it to the dance floor or out to the year-round terrace.

Suborn has plenty to celebrate besides its undisputed party credentials though, starting with its Mediterranean-inspired menu, which is a far cry from the usual bar-snack fare. The kitchen serves up market-fresh, quality homemade dishes so good they have garnered a strong local following. Recommended are the house Patatas Bravas, Fried Artichokes with Foie & Honey starter, Crunchy Pork with Tomato Jam and Potato Confit entrée, and homemade Tiramisú. Also available are half a dozen seasonal specials which vary weekly. Prices are reasonable, with tapas from three to seven euros and mains eight to twenty each.

With fresh flowers on the tables, diners chatting happily and cocktails flowing, the owners have cultivated a warm and homely environment – soulful food to compete with the music.
