THE LEMONHEADS - Varshons
The alternative rock outfit known for their take on Simon and Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson” are back at the covering game. Produced by Gibby Hanes of the Butthole Surfers and Cornershop’s Anthony Saffery, Varshons features tracks by Gram Parsons, Christina Aguilera and even an Evan Dando and Liv Tyler duet of a Leonard Cohen
SONIC YOUTH - The Eternal
The group’s first full studio album since Rather Ripped and their departure Geffen in 2006. Now recording on Matador and after a stint at Primavera Sound this year, the indie rockers are back in full force. With cover art by American finger style guitarist John Fahey, the interiors are full of loud jams and Kim Gordon’s sultry wails.
TINY MASTERS OF TODAY - Skeletons
Literally tiny, the group is made year-old Ivan and his 13- year-old Ada from Brooklyn, NY. The precocious teens first posted their homemade garage rock recordings on MySpace in 2005. Their new album is packed with sharp, short punk tracks featuring brash guitar noise and attitudinal lyrics.
WONDERLICK - Topless at the Arco Arena
From the ex-members of kooky group Too Much Joy, Tim Quirk and Jay Blumenfield make up this guitar pop pair producing playful electronic and techno tracks that are diverse and show complete disregard for standard song structure. The record is available to purchase online by donation, an idea made popular by Radiohead in 2007.
