Three sisters divorced from the present day run through a range of emotions – from the animalistic to the sublime – in Sapucay, the latest work by Croma Teatre. Mixing poetry, music and physical theater, the intense piece is a surreal journey to an “aboriginal Dallas by the Paraná River.”
“Sapucay” refers to a shout (like a yeehaw) in Chamamé, a folk music genre of South America. The piece reflects cultural experiences by Croma codirector Melina Pereyra, who cofounded the company in 1998 in Argentina. Croma Teatre is currently based in Barcelona and led by Pereyra and Juan Miranda, who, together with Neus Suñé, comprise the core members.
