If Sant Antoni is the new Born, Poble Sec is the new Gràcia. This neighbourhood is squeezed between Barcelona’s Broadway, Avinguda Paral·lel, and the Montjuïc hill. And the street where it all happens is Carrer Blai. At the popular Es Xibiu, the drink of choice is palo, a Mallorcan vermouth with an alcohol content ranging from 25% to 35%.
Surrounded by furniture from the Encants flea market, you’ll be served vermouth with Mallorcan pintxos. This means a lot of sobrassada – the red gold of Mallorcan gastronomy – but also delights like anchovy, goat cheese and caramelized apple, all spiked with a toothpick on a piece of bread. You only pay €1.50 per toothpick. A glass of palo – with or without a delicious pintxo – at Es Xibiu is definitely a must try when in Poble Sec.
