Pamplona brewers Naparbier have teamed up with Michelin-starred chef Miquel Aldana to create Barcelona’s first gastro brewpub. Designed by local hero Lázaro Rosa-Violán, the décor is bold and irreverent with hunks of rusted metal and a skull-emblazoned motorcycle hanging from exposed-brick walls.
Giant brewing tanks shimmer under sizzling Edison bulbs – rumor has it the lavish refurb cost over a million euros. Aldana’s contemporary Catalan menu features creative tapas and mar i muntanya specialties. Start with foie bombons with black olives or fresh mussels cooked with NaparBCN’s own Oude Gueuze before moving onto mains such as grilled octopus with parmentier potatoes or creamy rice with shrimp & artichoke. They also offer a new lunch menu (starter, main, dessert & drink) for €15.95 Monday to Friday.
Quaff your way through beers like their home-brewed All Your Yeahs, an American Red Ale, Sun and Shade Hoppy Pils or the 12% Avante-Garde Barley Wine from their bottle collection. Sign up for their monthly brewery tour & tastings, head down for their special beer releases, an afterwork pint or Sunday vermouth. Check their Facebook for more events.
The space may feel more suited to power lunches than beer tastings, but there’s no doubt it has cemented Beerxample’s reputation as Europe’s hottest beer destination..
