Started in NYC by The Madame and Tennessee Pink, two poets who took on bordello personas to take poetry readings out of hushed, stuffy studies and into warm lit, sexed up venues, the Poetry Brothel movement now reaches as far as Paris and Barcelona. BCN’s own barhopping Prostíbulo Poético started in 2009 by Kiely Sweatt – aka Madame Eva – began with an X-rated bang. Eva, along with the Paris brothel organizer and NYC’s band of poets, are working on an international poetry exchange and translation project. Tennessee Pink will be in Barcelona this fall to discuss other spicy things to come at the brothels on both continents.
